UNIVERSITY WORK - YEAR 1

In this section, I've laid out some of my best and favourite pieces from my first year at Falmouth University. I am currently studying for a BA Hons in Graphic Design.

EYES WIDE SHUT CAMPAIGN

Logo B+W - new-01.png

The Eyes Wide Shut Campaign was my graphical response to the last brief of the first year, in which we were challenged to pick a case study i.e climate change. And generate an outcome to creatively combat our chosen issues.

My chosen social issue of focus was Hostile Architecture. The act of designing public space to purposefully guide or restrict behaviour. Mainly affecting the most vulnerable people in our society, the homeless.

FURTHER INFO

WHAT WAS EYES WIDE SHUT?

I created Eyes Wide Shut in response to Hostile Architecture. It is a fictional charity that has two main aspects, one side is aiding the homeless in community hubs and fundraising. Another is through raising awareness through a vintage style mascot called Norm. Breaking the "NORM" was my way of inspiring action against anti-homeless structures through Graphic Activism. I created a logo, website, billboards and brand identity for my charity. Most of which can be found on this page.

NARRATIVE PROJECT

Narrative is another successful project from this year. Based on the theme of loss we were challenged to create a "book" with book being a very broad leaf term. My loss/narrative was focused on the time lost due to covid. It was hand made and purposefully designed to feel raw, anarchist and angry. My book is 2 metres long to symbolise the social distancing rules and each "page" is the same size as a toilet paper sheet, due to panic buying at the time. My favourite area of this project was my use of screen-printing to layout my pages. With images of mask-wearers, Boris Johnson, the news and scans made from masks and other PPE.

TYPE WEEK

TYPE week was a very brief 1 week project in which we sat through a series of lectures teaching us about grids, monograms, shapes and create type in different forms and structures.

WORKING PAGES + ODD PAGES

I think it is important to showcase process photos as well as finished products so I wanted to use the end of this page to include some of my presentation work.
